2027 Giro previews bring back Mortirolo, Gavia and Zoncolan

Alberto Contador and Mikel Landa race up the Mortirolo during stage 16 of the 2015 Giro d'Italia
Cyclingnews
Tuttosport reported a 2027 Giro route with a double ascent of the Mortirolo from its steeper side, the Passo Gavia as Cima Coppi and a finish at Zoncolan. None of it is official: Cyclingnews calls the route a classic format based on reports and predictions. The 2026 route had almost all the classic Alpine and Dolomite mountains missing.
The predicted stage 16 carries the Passo del Mortirolo, the Passo Gavia (2,618 m), a second Mortirolo ascent via the steeper Mazzo Valtellina side and a final climb to Aprica. The opening stage of the third week, Sondrio to Aprica after a second rest day, could be the toughest of the race, with nearly 6,000 metres of vertical climbing. The final showdown is predicted for Monte Zoncolan on stage 20, last tackled in 2018, when Chris Froome took an unexpected stage win. Gigi Negri of RCS Sport called a possible Aprica finish the «tappa regina». Tuttosport's Alessandro Brambilla wrote that the real Giro starts on Saturday 22 May in Lombardy.
