Dylan Groenewegen suffered a muscle tear around his ribs after a motorcyclist hit him head-on during training near Uithoorn. GP Fourmies is the least of it — for a sprinter, a rib injury is a bigger threat than a broken bone, because it's core explosivity that puts him ahead of the field at 300 meters, not just legs.
Groenewegen says he's still able to ride his Rose bike despite the pain, but can't say what the injury means for his upcoming races. He was building his best late-season stretch since joining Unibet Rose Rockets, with four wins including Ronde van Brugge. What stands out in his own account isn't the pain — it's the line he chose to stress himself: «Luckily, I escaped without any more serious injuries and feel fortunate that the consequences weren't worse.»
