Eddie Dunbar passed Santiago Buitrago inside the final kilometre on Peñas Blancas to win stage 19. Buitrago now has ten second-place finishes at this Vuelta a España 2026 — he entered the stage leading the mountains classification but still can't close one out.
Buitrago attacked with under 2km to go, only to be caught within 500 metres of the line — a day after being beaten by Marco Brenner on stage 18. For Dunbar, it's the opposite story: his first Grand Tour stage win in 734 days, and enough to earn most combative rider on the day. Ten podiums without a win is no longer bad luck for Buitrago, it's a trend.
