Enric Mas says he's the main favorite to win this Vuelta — "For me? Me," he told El Partidazo de Cope. That's not a small thing for a rider who has never once beaten Primož Roglič across 13 shared stage races.
Mas carries 2:06 on Felix Gall and 2:10 on Roglič into the final week, but the Monaco opener is the number that matters: Roglič took 12 seconds from him over just 9.4km. Stretch that ratio across the 32.1km Jerez test and the gap could evaporate. Mas has never held this kind of lead into a Grand Tour's decisive time trial before — his one WorldTour GC title came at Guangxi, not against this field. Saying he's the favorite is itself the story.
