Oscar Onley missed a 10-metre gap on the first ascent of Puerto de El Purche. That single split cost him 5:44 to Sepp Kuss and dropped him from fifth overall to sixth on Stage 20.
Onley started the stage 43 seconds behind fourth-placed Kuss, close enough to still be thinking podium. «I followed the others, but I just missed ten metres,» he said after finishing 19th, 10:19 behind stage winner Mikel Landa. The margin between top five and sixth at a Grand Tour isn't built over three weeks — it's decided in the space of a wheel, on one climb. Onley still leaves with the white jersey, 1:10 clear of Jakob Omrzel, and a debut Grand Tour that never required it.
