Sepp Kuss attacked with more than 100km still to race on stage 20's first ascent of Puerto de El Purche, climbed from 11th to fifth overall. Riding a third Grand Tour of the season isn't wearing him down — it's the exact condition that produces his best climbing, same as 2023.
Richard Carapaz matched the first move but Felix Gall reeled it in by the summit; Kuss went again on the second ascent and this time nobody came back. He crossed 4:35 behind stage winner Mikel Landa but 2:02 clear of Gall, the next-best GC rider on the day, and now sits 8:45 off Enric Mas with one stage left. The last rider to finish all three Grand Tours in a season was Kuss himself, in 2023 — the year he won this race.
