Silca CEO Josh Poertner on the brand's second act – and expansion into tyres
Suvi Loponen
Under Poertner, Silca is no longer a pump company. From floor pumps to chain wax, TPU inner tubes, and now tires—each move solves a specific technical problem rather than chasing a trend. If the tires prove out as a full category, Silca becomes the only small brand closing the entire stack between you and the road.
Since 2014, Poertner has methodically expanded the lineup: Silca SuperSecret Chain Lube and Silca Secret Chain Blend Hot Wax answered the inefficiency of paraffin waxing in field conditions; Silca Ultimate tubeless tyre sealant tackled durability issues plaguing existing sealants; Silca Ultimate TPU Inner Tube, with heat-welded seams and 100% factory testing, directly challenged competitors on durability specs. The logic behind each launch is identical: identify a measurable deficit in existing products, not fill an empty shelf slot. A new distribution partnership with HLC (August 2026) signals that Silca is ready to scale this model through independent U.S. retail.
