Zwift just bought its rival Rouvy. Read as a market signal, not just a deal: a leader that raised prices 33% while MyWhoosh grew for free doesn't buy a competitor out of comfort — this looks like consolidation to hold ground it can no longer take for granted.
Zwift raised US pricing 33% in May 2024, its first hike since 2017, right as post-pandemic normalization sent former indoor riders back outside. MyWhoosh, free to use, now hosts the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships — an event Zwift used to own. Zwift says Rouvy will keep operating independently with its own roadmap, but the platform it built from scratch now has to defend territory against the field it created.
