Bardiani CSF 7 Saber miss the Giro and say they may fold

BERGAMO, ITALY - OCTOBER 10: Edward Cruz of Colombia and Team Bardiani CSF 7 Saber prior to the 120th Il Lombardia 2026 a 239km one day race from Bergamo to Como

Bardiani CSF 7 Saber finished outside the UCI top-30 team rankings for 2026 and has no Giro d'Italia wildcard eligibility for 2027. Escape Collective puts the team 31st, and boss Bruno Reverberi says it will likely shut down under the current regulations. One place in a points table has put a Giro d'Italia presence on the line.
What this means
Bardiani CSF 7 Saber cannot race the Giro d'Italia in 2027. Reverberi says the team has thought about closing in two years, telling the TriCiclo Podcast: «Our project is to stop.»
The team has raced every Giro d'Italia since 1982, missing only one edition since then according to Escape Collective. Reverberi says the team spent €5 million and still lacks the right to race. He says the points system pushes teams to chase top-10 finishes: «Our way of racing was to break away. Now you don't even break away, because you try to keep the rider there to sprint for tenth place for those damned UCI points». Euskaltel-Euskadi finished 121 places above Bardiani CSF 7 Saber in the UCI points rankings, and travelled to Algeria and Panama in the final weeks of 2026 to collect points. Reverberi says the current regulations make ProTeam-level teams fragile, with no guarantee of invitations to the biggest races. The team signed a multi-year agreement with Uzbek clothing company 7 Saber at the start of 2026, and has taken four or five new riders on one-year contracts.
