Battenkill returns to UCI calendar after 13-year gap
Battenkill is back on the UCI calendar after a 13-year absence, with the 2027 edition set as a men's UCI 1.2 race on May 22, 2027 in New York State. «Bringing Battenkill back to the UCI calendar has been one of our major goals since returning the event to Cambridge,» said event director Dieter Drake.
What this means
Battenkill's 2027 UCI race places it back under Anthem Sports, the organization that founded and ran the event from 2005 through 2017, after a period under different ownership as a gran fondo.
The race sits two weeks before another men's UCI 1.2 event, the Armed Forces Cycling Classic Capitol Cup, on June 5. Battenkill, the Tour of the Gila men's and women's 2.2-ranked stage races, and Philadelphia Cycling Classic p/b Amerigas are currently the only US events on the UCI's 2027 road calendar. Battenkill returned to the domestic pro calendar a year earlier, in May 2026, held in Cambridge, New York as a gran fondo and pro/am race on May 9. In the intervening years the event continued as a gran fondo under different ownership, before the 2027 UCI edition returns it to Anthem Sports, the organization that founded and ran the Tour of the Battenkill from 2005 through 2017. «Battenkill was built around hard, unpredictable racing on beautiful but unforgiving roads. The UCI race gives us an opportunity to bring that experience back to professional riders while also introducing a new generation of cyclists to what makes this event so special,» Drake said. «We aren't trying to reinvent Battenkill. We're trying to preserve what made people remember it. Cambridge, the dirt roads, the farms, the weather, the climbs and the unpredictability are all part of the race. Bringing the UCI event back gives us the opportunity to build on that history rather than replace it.»
