Fitting 55mm+ tyres normally pushes frame weight past 1,100g — the extra material at the chainstay and bottom bracket has to go somewhere. Canyon's 989g frame suggests the weight didn't move to the frame at all: a solid driveside chainstay and PF86 shell handle the load, while the seat tube narrows lower down and deepens up top for compliance instead of bulk. Dropping the front derailleur mount entirely frees up clearance that would otherwise be spent fighting chainline. Rosa Klöser rode a prototype to victory at The Traka 360 on 2.2-inch Schwalbe Thunder Burt tyres — a mountain bike tread, on what Canyon still calls a gravel race bike.
