EF Education-EasyPost lets Wegelius go three days after White
EF Education-EasyPost announced on Saturday that head sports director Charly Wegelius is leaving the team after 15 years. Three days earlier, the team had announced Matt White as a sports director. The order of the two announcements is the story.
What this means
The team has a new sports director for 2027 in White and no longer has Wegelius as head sports director.
Wegelius has been a DS at the team since 2012, and took on the role of head sports director in 2018. He started in the role when the team was Garmin-Cervélo, after retiring as a rider. On 28 October EF announced White would join as a sports director for 2027, and Cyclingnews listed Wegelius among the DS team White would join. Three days later Wegelius was out. The team marked it with an Instagram farewell video and the line «Thank you for the incredible ride».
