Enric Mas leads the Vuelta a España 2026 by 2:06 over Felix Gall and 2:10 over Primož Roglič heading into Thursday's 32.1km Stage 18 Individual Time Trial — the discipline that has always been his weak point. Movistar's Matt White isn't hedging: "I think we've seen probably the best version of Enric Mas maybe ever." That's not the caveat you'd expect before a time trial that's supposed to expose him.
Mas himself sounds the same note: «In the end, you know what's at stake, so I'll have to bring out my best.» The time trial has historically been where his GC bids leak time, and Roglič — four-time Vuelta winner — is exactly the rider built to punish that gap. But a directeur sportif doesn't call it the best version ever out of politeness three days from the finish. Two mountain stages, including Saturday's climb to Collado del Alguacil, still sit between Jerez and Madrid regardless of what Thursday does to the margin.
