Geerike Schreurs broke a five-year course record at Lauf Gravel Worlds 2026 — then had to win it again by 0.01 of a second in a photo finish over Rosa Klöser. The storm-forced course rejig, which stripped everything down to a single MMR section, turned the entire race into one choke point.
Organizers switched to a wet-weather route after overnight storms, leaving just one minimum maintenance road section on course. That single stretch became the race-deciding moment: Schreurs and Klöser broke clear there, and nobody else got back on. Schreurs crossed in 7:19:37, beating Lauren De Crescenzo's 2021 record of 7:36:42 — which is the sharpest evidence that stripping out gravel didn't slow the racing down, it just concentrated it. Charlotte Clarke finished third; Torbjørn Røed took the men's title in a three-way sprint ahead of Keegan Swenson.
