Gravel racing grew out of American grassroots events, but the UCI Gravel World Championships won't touch U.S. soil until at least 2032. The 2026 edition heads to Nannup, Western Australia instead — the first time the championship leaves Europe at all.
Since the UCI-sanctioned worlds launched in 2022, they've never landed in the country where Unbound Gravel, SBT GRVL and the Belgian Waffle Ride already draw the sport's biggest fields. The calendar, not merit, is what's holding the U.S. out. Part of that is self-inflicted: gravel's core has never fully embraced the UCI showing up to sanction a scene it didn't build.
