Hayter broke into the Stage 3 breakaway and took maximum points at the intermediate sprint — then the UCI jury cancelled the stage entirely, resetting all classifications to Stage 2 standings and leaving him five points behind Pogačar for the second day running. The jury's decision nullified both the intermediate and mountain sprint results on Col de Mont-Louis, meaning Hayter's lead in the points classification — however briefly real — never existed on the books.
