Kate Courtney isn't the only cross-discipline debut on Team USA's Montréal roster. Taylor Knibb, a two-time Olympic triathlete, is debuting in the time trial — a different sport entirely making the same bet Courtney made from mountain biking.
Knibb won Olympic silver in the triathlon mixed relay at Tokyo and raced both the time trial and triathlon in Paris; now she's a national time trial champion lining up at road Worlds. Courtney's path ran through a 2018 cross-country world title before she won a stage at the Tour de Féminin 2026 and the elite road race at 2026 USA Cycling Pro Road Championships, landing a WorldTour deal with FDJ United-Suez within months. Two different sports, one pattern: established champions treating road cycling as a serious pivot, not a side project.
