Vuelta a España Stage 5: Brit Sensation Matthew Brennan Goes 2-for-2 in Reduced Sprint
Jim Cotton
Matthew Brennan is 2-for-2 in Grand Tour stage sprints, and he's done it on two completely different finishes. Four days into his debut Vuelta, he's beaten Pogačar uphill and outsprinted a reduced bunch off the Alto de Paüls — as a stage racer, he's simply undefeated.
Stage 2 in Manosque was an uphill sprint against Pau Miquel and Pogačar. Stage 5 was a different problem entirely — a reduced group in Roquetes after the Alto de Paüls climb 25 km from home, won behind a textbook Visma-Lease a Bike lead-out from Van Aert and Laporte, ahead of Jordi Meeus and Vincenzo Albanese. Two wins, two finale profiles, zero losses — that range is the story, not just the tally.
