Matthew Brennan won Stage 11 in Lorca, his third stage victory in eleven stages at his Grand Tour debut. He's now taken three of the four bunch sprints in this Vuelta — this isn't a fast rider winning, it's a Visma-Lease a Bike train that's decided the sprint before it starts.
Brennan crossed the line in the same time as Bryan Coquard and Jordi Meeus, both credible sprinters in their own right, but the 10-second bonus went to Brennan because Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte had already done the work. Van Aert himself rolled in fifth for a two-second bonus — the lead-out rider finishing ahead of half the field he was supposed to be delivering someone else through. Coquard and Meeus aren't losing sprints on the line; they're losing them on the run-in, before wheels are even contested.
