Isaac del Toro won't have the strongest team at Worlds, but Mexico is hoping that won't matter
Dane Cash
Mexico's Worlds roster is Isaac del Toro plus six riders most of the peloton couldn't pick out of a lineup. That's usually a death sentence at Worlds — except del Toro finished 5th in last year's time trial as a first-year WorldTour pro, before he'd even needed a team around him.
Del Toro's results this year — 3rd at the 2026 Tour de France, a Vuelta a Alemania win, and 4th in the UCI World Tour standings — came largely on the strength of his own legs, with UAE Team Emirates-XRG doing the structural work most Mexican teammates can't replicate on Sunday. He also just won GP Cycliste de Montréal over Paul Seixas on roads that make up most of the Worlds finishing circuit, which means the course-knowledge gap national teams usually suffer doesn't apply here. As Outside Online Velo put it: «Isaac del Toro basically is the Mexican team. His five relatively unknown teammates might not be around to deliver him bottles long.»
