Roglič talks about taking it "step by step"—but behind that formula sits a body for which pulling on socks was agony just three weeks ago. The bruising from the car impact on his thighs never cleared before the start. This isn't a comeback story. It's managed uncertainty.
Roglič hasn't raced since late June—nearly two months away from competition after missing Clásica San Sebastián 2026 and Vuelta a Burgos 2026. According to Spanish sources, his recovery moved slower than planned. Even sports director Sven Vanthourenhout won't hide it: "We have to be realistic—his preparation was completely different from what we expected after the crash." Three weeks at Vuelta a España 2026 isn't a return to form. It's the first real test of whether his body can hold up at all.
