Stedman and Preen win stage 5; Beers and Laing lead the GC

Travis Stedman won stage 5 of the Nedbank Gravel Burn, his second straight, and Hayley Preen took her second stage of the event. Neither leads the overall: Matt Beers holds a 32-second GC lead in the men's race, and Nele Laing leads the women's by 55 seconds. With two stages left in the women's race, the stage wins and the GC sit with different riders.
What this means
Beers leads the men's GC by 32 seconds and Laing leads the women's by 55 seconds after stage 5.
Stedman launched a 1,300-watt effort up the drag to the line after Beers led out the men's sprint, and beat Jaedon Terlouw and Filippo Colombo. Beers led out the sprint and still carries the 32 seconds. In the women's race, Preen opened her sprint early and held on ahead of Laing and Clara Koppenburg. Laing finished behind Preen on the stage and leads the GC by 55 seconds. Koppenburg drove the trio to the finish to protect third on GC from Olivia Hottinger. The stage was 128 km with 1,050 m of climbing, finishing at a remote orange windmill near Gwanishi. Stage wins and the overall are being decided by different riders.
