Tim Wellens attacked on the Redmire climb and took the Tour of Britain 2026 race lead. Cees Bol's win in Leyburn was the sprint that closed out someone else's stage.
Wellens went on the 3.5km, 8.1% Redmire climb and turned Stage 4 into a GC stage, overturning Lewis Askey's 12-second lead. Bol still had to finish the job, beating Wellens in the two-up sprint for his first win in four years — but the story of the stage was written on the climb, not the finish line. Askey and Filippo Ganna both lost 30 seconds.
