Visma–Lease a Bike is building a dedicated sprint train around 22-year-old Nienke Veenhoven — and Maike van der Duin's deliberate pivot to lead-out specialist is the clearest signal yet that the team is betting on her for the long haul.
Van der Duin, signing a two-year deal through 2028, isn't sliding into a support role by default — she explicitly chose it: «My ambition mainly lies in the lead-out role. I want to specialise further in that area, gain more experience and, together with Nienke, build a strong sprint train.» That kind of intentional career reshaping only makes sense if the team's confidence in Veenhoven is real. The underlying data supports it: three stage wins at the Baloise Ladies Tour 2026 plus the points classification, against a field that included Charlotte Kool, brings Veenhoven to six UCI wins for the season — a career-best pace at 22.
