Schreurs out of surgery, in hospital two more weeks

Geerike Schreurs fractured her neck and spine in a crash at the UCI Gravel World Championships and underwent surgery on Sunday. The Dutch federation says the operation went well, but she stays in hospital for at least another two weeks and the length of her recovery is not yet known. Marianne Vos won the race, and the result that matters from it is now medical.
What this means
Schreurs, 37, is out of the hospital for no earlier than two weeks, with no recovery timeline given.
Schreurs fell with just over 70km to run in the 125.6km race, out of a strong chase group behind then-race leader Tiffany Cromwell. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio went down with her, and red flags were raised after both falls. The federation reports her pain is under control and that she has been able to move both her arms and feet. Her first question, according to the federation, was when she could ride her bike again. She had finished 16th and 19th at the past two UCI Gravel World Championships, and this year was second at The Mid South and Unbound Gravel 200. The federation's own outlook: «There is still a long road ahead, and there will be ups and downs along the way, but she is incredibly strong and determined.»
