Seixas wins Il Lombardia by attacking when the pace dropped

Paul Seixas won Il Lombardia 2026 after attacking on the Civiglio with about 19 km to go and riding alone to Como. Seixas said he made the difference at the moment he chose, maybe a bit earlier, because he felt the rhythm was not high enough at the start of the climb.
What this means
Seixas became the youngest-ever Il Lombardia winner, 16 days after turning 20, and the youngest Monument winner since 1944 (Rik Van Steenbergen). It is the first edition since 2020 not won by Pogačar, who was not on the start list.
Seixas attacked with about 19 km to go and distanced Remco Evenepoel and Isaac del Toro, before Tom Pidcock and Giulio Ciccone also lost contact. He described the rest as a time trial to the finish after he saw the group's pace was insufficient. Velo's analysis argues the Civiglio ride was not Seixas's best: fatigue from a 5-hour, 215 km lead-in meant no rider produced career-best performances, and Velo says Jonas Vingegaard has beaten these numbers on multiple occasions. Estimates put him at about 7.1 W/kg, with Gazzetta data giving an average of 460 W, while Velo's VAM-based figure was nearly 450 W. Ben Healy attacked in the chase at 6.7 W/kg and still lost 11 seconds on the final climb. Del Toro imploded on the Civiglio and missed the top 20.
