Stefan Küng's Stage 18 win wasn't just a result — it was proof he needed for himself. At 32 and recovering from a broken femur, he'd been told by other riders that the injury can take two years to fully heal, and he admitted wondering if his career might already be over.
Küng broke his left femur at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in February, out for 16 weeks. Even his stage win at the Tour de Pologne carried an asterisk of doubt — «I didn't know if I was ever going to come back to the same level,» he said. Jerez seems to have settled it: «Now it doesn't feel like a comeback anymore, you know, it just feels like I'm back into it.»
