Gimeno Ferrer takes maiden pro win in Langkawi stage 7 breakaway

A seven-rider break formed by the 28 km mark, including Mario Aparicio, Nil Gimeno, Santiago Herreño, Adne van Engelen, Kee Zhe Yie, Andrei Stepanov and one other rider. Matsui and Kee dropped away, leaving five riders with a 2:25 advantage over the peloton at 30 km to go. Herreño then dropped away, leaving four riders to contest the final sprint, which Gimeno Ferrer won. He is 22 years old and turned professional with Equipo Kern Pharma in October 2024. He had finished fourth on stage 4 when a break survived in the Cameron Highlands. «Well, we came here for one stage. We believed it was the stage four, but didn't happen and I was not expecting today. All the breakaway riders, eh pull full gas all the day, really honest everybody, and we did it. We did it.» — Nil Gimeno Ferrer. «I know I'm really fast, but you never know when you go full gas all the day. You don't know if you have the strength in the sprint but luckily, all the riders in the breakaway, we committed... each one of them went full gas all the way.» — Nil Gimeno Ferrer. Lennart Jasch of Tudor Pro Cycling Team maintained his overall lead with a 26-second advantage over Abel Balderstone of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA after the stage. «I don't really dare to speak too much about it because today on paper it was an easy day but it was a really hard day so in the end its a bike race like every other day and tomorrow, for sure it won't be easy.» — Lennart Jasch.
