Mosca retires at Gran Piemonte, becomes Lidl-Trek sports director

Jacopo Mosca is retiring after Gran Piemonte on 8 October 2026, a year before his existing Lidl-Trek contract was due to end. He will become a sports director at Lidl-Trek from the 2027 season. The move also frees up a roster spot at the team for 2027.
What this means
Mosca's retirement opens a roster spot at Lidl-Trek for 2027.
Mosca, 33, had been with Lidl-Trek as a full-time rider for eight seasons, joining in 2019 after a stagiaire stint in 2016. He was under contract through the end of 2027 before deciding to step away from racing early. Lidl-Trek had announced in August 2025 that he would stay through 2027 as a road captain and experienced presence in the bunch. Looking back, Mosca said: «I think 2020 was my best year as a rider, I had good numbers and got good results.» He added: «Even if I was never a winner, I think I achieved the best possible and can be proud of what I did in my career.» On the switch to the team car, he said: «I was given the option of being a sports director for next year and I'm really happy to step in the car next season, even if it is going to be a big change.» He explained his approach to the new role: «I've seen how much cycling has evolved and I think they can trust me because I have come straight from being a rider and I was one of the guys who probably suffered the most in the bunch.» On what he hopes to pass on, he said: «I want to teach younger riders, above all, to enjoy cycling as much as possible. It's a beautiful privilege that we have to be able to do this.»
