Ryan Gal won the under-23 time trial in Montreal. He beat 71 other riders while racing for Metec - SOLARWATT p/b Mantel, a continental team outside the WorldTour structure.
The 31.3 km course ran through a city hosting Worlds for the first time in 52 years, and Gal, born in 2005, took the title against a field of 72 specialists. Gal's result came from a program built without WorldTour development infrastructure behind him.
